Black Sails

2017.04.18

Black Sails is over. It took four season to re-create the Golden Age of Piracy having real pirates like Edward Teach (aka Blackbeard), Charles Vane, Jack Rackham or Anne Bonny mixed up with characters from “The Treasure Island” like Long John Silver and the Captain Flint. There’s too much effort in making the historical characters fit in that it’s not fair to say it was just a prequel,

If you think it twice, it could not last longer than that because the timeline of real events was carefully respected. Not a documentary, but an entertaining way to get in touch with that brief chapter of history.

The cast of Black Sails is overall excellent. I’m going to need time to see these characters played by someone else. And yes, I really want that crew in an adaptation of R.L. Stevenson’s book.

Although you know already which fictional characters are going to survive, and that almost every famous pirate is not gonna make it, the fourth season succeeds in giving a decent ending, spectacular battles overseas, and making all the pieces of the puzzle fit in.

Yes there are no dragons, or white walkers… but who needs them when you’ve got pirates? Yaarrr!

“A Hollywood se llega un poco siendo fiel a uno mismo porque ellos quieren una voz. Y luego quieren obviamente joderte la voz y convertirlo todo en plano y masticable”, ríe el director, que cambia el tono para confesar humilde: “Yo soy un chaval de barrio que trabajó en un videoclub, que no ha ido a la escuela de cine, entonces tengo tanta suerte de poder contar historias y vivir de esto que es un privilegio.”
